SPONSORED RESEARCH

Principal Investigator, Quietmind Foundation. Investigation of combined EEG and cerebral blood flow biofeedback as a means of remediating the effects of fronto-temporal dementia (FTD). Research sponsored by the Phoebe Haas Charitable Trusts.

Principal Investigator, Philadelphia Office of Mental Health. Study focused on the efficacy of two approaches to EEG biofeedback with 39 children in the public mental health system diagnosed with ADHD and conduct disorder. Findings presented to OMH senior management and to be submitted for publication. This was the first study of its kind and is supporting consideration by local Medicaid funder to approve neurofeedback as a treatment protocol for children and adults in the public healthcare system. Directly managed research team of 12 staff.

Principal Investigator, Helen Bader Foundation. Study focused on the impact of brainwave biofeedback on cognitive and emotional symptoms related to early stage Alzheimer’s dementia. Double-blind controlled study using sham treatment with 40+ subjects in assisted living facilities.

President, Quietmind Foundation, (2000-Present) Directing the development of all aspects of foundation devoted to the mainstreaming of brainwave biofeedback into the American healthcare service delivery system. The foundation is also working to create a university-based training program for mental health professionals seeking to learn brainwave biofeedback techniques and conduct relevant research.

Organizational Development Consultant, (2009-present) National Park Service, Designed and developed systems change intervention for Region III based in Philadelphia. Collaborating with senior administration officials, providing workshops on interviewing and communications, resume writing and team building, and individual executive coaching.

Organizational Psychologist, (1995-2000) United States Postal Service-Lancaster Performance Cluster. Providing ongoing consultation and training for senior management, internal organizational development and human resources personnel on large system culture change strategy and planning. Conducted off-site management team retreats, meeting facilitation and training.

Management & Organization Development Consultant, (1994-1995) Integra, Inc., Providing clinical and organizational consultation to EAP subscribers of a Fortune 1000 client. Responsibilities included assessment and referral and consultation with senior managers and team leaders regarding individual and team development, stress management and outplacement. Conducted numerous seminars and workshops on topics related to mental health, substance abuse prevention and stress management.

Training and Development Consultant (1996-1998), Illinois Department of Mental Health and Division of Alcohol and Substance Abuse. Providing technical assistance and consultation on the development of a curriculum. Trained staff in state-operated facilities on the clinical service needs and strategies for treating clients with co-occurring mental illness and substance abuse disorders.

Executive Director, Mental Illness Chemical Abuse Research & Education. Consulting and training organization designing multimedia-oriented skills training programs to enhance the service delivery capabilities of public and private behavioral and human service organizations worldwide. Produced state-of-the-art interactive video-based intervention skills training program for counselors and supervisors of community based programs serving clients struggling with substance abuse and major psychiatric illness.

Program Development Consultant, (1989-1991) State of New Jersey, Division of Mental Health Services. Produced video-based training program and supervisory training program for 300 contract agencies on intake, assessment and treatment issues among clients with dual diagnoses.

Education & Training Consultant, (1994) West Virginia Office of Behavioral Health Services. Designed and delivered statewide training for all staff development and supervisory personnel in Department of Mental Health, Substance Abuse and Human Services on service delivery for clients recovering from substance abuse and mental illness.

Education and Training Consultant, (1989-1992) New York State Office of Mental Health. Designed and implemented regional dual diagnosis intervention skills training program. Trained 1100 staff and 130 supervisors and produced a 107 minute interactive video-based training system for orientation, intervention skills training and supervisory needs assessment.

Private practice of psychotherapy since 1976 working with children, adolescents and adults. Focus on body/mind interaction, relationship problems, substance abuse, physical disorders including chronic illnesses and dementia. Added brainwave biofeedback to practice in 1995.
