Dr. Berman received his B.S. in Social Welfare and Psychology from the State University of New York's Empire State College, his Master's and Ph.D. in Psychoeducational Processes from Temple University where he studied group and organizational behavior.
In 1983 Dr. Berman obtained certification in Bioenergetic Analysis at the Philadelphia Institute for Bioenergetic Analysis and has advanced training in neuropsychology, Systems-Centered Therapy, the Feldenkrais Method.
He is board-certified in EEG and peripheral biofeedback.

Principal Investigator, Quietmind Foundation. Investigation of combined EEG and cerebral blood flow biofeedback as a means of remediating the effects of fronto-temporal dementia (FTD). Research sponsored by the Phoebe Haas Charitable Trusts.
Principal Investigator, Philadelphia Office of Mental Health. Study focused on the efficacy of two approaches to EEG biofeedback with 39 children in the public mental health system diagnosed with ADHD and conduct disorder. Findings presented to OMH senior management and to be submitted for publication. This was the first study of its kind and is supporting consideration by local Medicaid funder to approve neurofeedback as a treatment protocol for children and adults in the public healthcare system. Directly managed research team of 12 staff.
Principal Investigator, Helen Bader Foundation. Study focused on the impact of brainwave biofeedback on cognitive and emotional symptoms related to early stage Alzheimer’s dementia. Double-blind controlled study using sham treatment with 40+ subjects in assisted living facilities.

Education and Training Consultant, (1989-1992) New York State Office of Mental Health. Designed and implemented regional dual diagnosis intervention skills training program. Trained 1100 staff and 130 supervisors and produced a 107 minute interactive video-based training system for orientation, intervention skills training and supervisory needs assessment.
